In 2014 I was invited to travel to Kosovo to attend a family reunion at the Veliu family home. During the Kosovo War of 1998-1999 the Velius had experienced the death of their father and other atrocities at the hands of Serbian forces. In order to survive the conflict the family had split up and was scattered across the countryside and neighboring Albania. This was the first time they had all been together at the family home since the death of their mother. We created portraits that spoke to their individual stories of the darkest days of the war.
